Allergic Rhinitis and Nasacort?
Hello!
Does anyone know if Nasacort can help clear up mucus in a throat? One of my nostrils is not breathing as well. My doctor prescribed me some spray called "Patanase" but it's not covered by my insurance. Do you think Nasacort can help?

Thank you!

Nasacort may help. Keep in mind that these two medications operate in two very different ways. Nasacort is a steroid, which can cause a host of problems, including increased nasal bleeding and headaches.

Patanase was recently approved by the FDA as part of the third generation of antihistamines, called H1 receptor antagonists.

If you combine over-the-counter generic Claratin or Zyrtec with Nasacort, you may acheive similar relief as Patanase.

Nasacort AQ question?
I started taking Nasacort AQ a week or so ago to reduce.. bah,I forgot what it was called. It's where you can only breath through one side of your nose and it constantly switches sides every few hours.

But, I noticed two days after taking it (Or it could have been the same day..) I took it before I went to sleep, and woke up feeling something like just coming back from the dead. Tingly, breathing hard, just coming to awarness. And rapidly moving my body around on the bed.

I didn't realise at the time that it might have been the Nasacort of course, it slipped my mind since I had just started taking it. Now, however I took it a few hours earlier and notice trouble breathing. I was about to fall asleep but decided against it because it felt like my airway was compressing.

Is nasacort known to cause these symptoms?. If so, I'm going to stop taking it.

Stop taking it and report these symptoms to your Dr! It sounds as if you are actually allergic to the medication and if you continue taking it you could end up with an anaphylactic allergic reaction.

can nasacort be used with amoxicillin?
I got nasacort as a sample from my doctor for congestion, but is it okay to use while on amoxicillin?
these are both just for a sinus infection.

Could nasacort be causing my dizziness, puffy eyes and eye orbital pain?
I have been taking nasacort for several years for allergies. Recently, I developed puffy eyes, dizziness and fairly severe pain around my left eye. My docs don't know what is wrong. I had a CAT scan of sinuses - nothing is wrong. Any thoughts?

I found this description of side effects:

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common or rare

Bad smell; blindness; bloody mucus or unexplained nosebleeds; blurred or gradual loss of vision; burning or stinging after use of spray or irritation inside nose (continuing); crusting, white patches, or sores inside nose; discharge or redness in eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid; eye pain; headache; hives; light-headedness or dizziness; loss of sense of taste or smell; muscle pain; nausea or vomiting; ringing in the ears; shortness of breath; skin rash; sore throat, cough, or hoarseness; stomach pains; stuffy, dry, or runny nose or watery eyes (continuing); swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; tightness in chest; troubled breathing; unusual tiredness or weakness; wheezing; white patches in throat

It might be a good idea to stop the nasocort for a few months to see what happens, and in the meantime and take someting like Claritin-D or Zyrtec-D instead.

Nasacort! I woke up shaking, feeling very hot and naucious last night after sleeping for an hour.?
My room was cool and i wasnt under heavy blankets, and i wasnt sweating. i had taken my Nasacort AQ nasal spray at 10:30 and woke up nausious with the chills at 11:45. this progressed to the strangest headache and i felt super hot but my temperature was very normal and my parents said i felt fine. but it felt like a sorta sinus headache and my temples were burning on the inside of my head. after 35-45 min the chills went away and so did the nausea, but the burning inside my head and the sinus-like headache remained on and off and i finally fell back asleep by 2:30. i woke up this morning with a headache.....what happened?? this didnt happen when i was taking the Nasacort a few weeks ago

what happened to me??? i was soooo soooo sooo scared
i dont suffer from migraines, can we take into consideration that i might have some sort of sinus problem that is undiagnosed? ive had 2 sinus infections since sept, and more headaches than i ever had....if i used to get like 7-8 a year, now i get like 4-5 a month....and some of them are regular headaches, others are sinus headaches.

It seems unlikely that Nasacort caused this. I went through the prescribing information for it, and there are no side effects mentioned such as the ones you experienced. Most of the time, people who have any adverse reaction at all may have a slightly clogged nose for a few mintues; some people also get a slight "raw" feeling in the throat from time to time, but certainly nothing like nausea or the headache or odd temperature sensations you report.

One thing you should be clear about when taking Nasacort, Nasonex, Flonase, or any similar topical corticosteroid is that it should be used EVERY DAY, regardless of whether or not you are experiencing symptoms. If it's working properly, it is almost as though your allergies have simply evaporated. The reasons for that are a little complex to go into here, but that's how most people feel who use these products.

Given your nausea and the chills you experiened, I would have to ask if you are subject to migraine headaches, or cluster headaches. Nausea is a common complaint with migraines. In any case, if the problem continues, you should see your doctor.

what is nasacort AQ?

Its a corticosteroid nasal spray used to help reduce the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (runny nose/congestion). Its best used daily to help reduce the severity of congestion. Shake the container well before use. Blow nose before using nasal spray. If congestion is that bad your doctor may recommend using an OTC nasal spray such as Afrin to use for the first two days (to give the Nasacort AQ time to work). If the spray ends up dripping down the back of your throat, you may want to gargle w/water to rinse it out.

You are supposed to use it for a week or more before it has any effect on your condition. Inform your doctor about the dry throat.

Is Nasacort AQ effective in treating itching on the body in places other than the nose/head/face area?

Nasacort and other nasal steroids do not have significant absorption into the bloodstream and thus wouldnt be useful for treating symptoms other than in the nose.

What prescription allergy medicine should I try now?
Hi guys,

Opps. Accidently deleted the last one. I suffer with allergies throughout the whole year, which often times turn into Sinus Infections. I've tried Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec, and Nasacort AQ. None of them seem to work. The Nasacort AQ works for maybe 3 hours and that's it. I've also tried herbs (Fenugreek, ALJ-contains thyme, fenugreek, goldenseal, and Mullein).
I'm going to the doctor again on Tuesday to see what we can do because now my lips are extremely dried out and feel like they're burning. I have no food allergies that I know of. I have had allergic reactions before to things like Nair, make-up, and detergent, but that's it. I've also gotten sensitive to smoke within the past year. It flares it up right away now.

Typcial symptoms include: runny, watery eyes, sneezing, nasal congestion, post-nasal drip, swollen glands, pressure in face, sometimes head pain, sometimes neck pain, fatigue/sleepiness,

What other allergy medicines are out there that will work good

You are going to have to do strong research with the help of Medical specialist. Continue to try many specialists so they each can do the work.

Allegra, Allegra D, and Nasacort AQ for a sleep problem?
I recently went in for a sleep study because I'm always tired during the day. I usually woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep. My doctor sent me to and ear, nose, and throat specialist after the study. The results said I slept fairly good but had a problem with my oxygen saturation, it was about 83%. The specialist said there was something that was keeping me from getting oxygen in my blood. He assumed my breathing was restricted and prescribed a sinus rinse followed by Nasacort AQ twice a day, Allegra D in the morning, and Allegra at night. I have not found any information on any of these drugs that go along with what the doctor told me (or at least what I understood). I was just curious of how this helps my oxygen levels in my blood or if there was some other reason that it seems to be working. I have only been on the medication for about a week but I can't believe how much of a difference it has made (except for feeling crappy and disoriented the first day). I don't go back to the doctor for a few weeks but I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these types of drugs for increasing oxygen levels (if that's what they are really doing). Does anyone have information on this?

Allegra D is an antihistamine which causes the blood vessels to dialate. Basically, the blood vessels open up wider and allow more blood to flow through...more blood equals more oxygen.

There is no easy answer to this question. First of all, Nasacort and Astelin work differently. Nasacort and Flonase, are both steroid sprays. They work by decreasing inflammation in the sinus passages. Astelin is an antihistamine. The over the counter sprays, such as the ones from dollar general, should only be used for a maximum of three days. They open your passages well but with continued use you get a "rebound" effect and then you will need to continue to use them, basically they are addictive. As far as the first options go, it is trial and error. What works for one, may not work as well for another. Ask you doctor which one he/she recommends and start there. If it doesn't work well for you, your doctor will probably try you on another. Of note, these medications usually have to be used for a couple of weeks before maximum benefits are achieved.

I went to my doctor for allergies and sinus trouble. Why did he put me on 2 nose sprays? Astelin & Nasacort? ?
Whats the difference and what are they supposed to do??? And My doctor also said I should find a bee keeper in my area to eat the honey and pollen off of the bee cage!! Have you ever heard such a thing???

I worked for a group of 130 doctors and have never heard anything about bees. Sounds a little dangerous to me! I've been prescribed one or the other, but not both at the same time. I'm sure your doctor has a reason, but I'm not sure why two steroids. I didn't like Astelin, it gave me bad headaches. If you're concerned, talk to your doctor, or find a new one.

When I started on nasal corticosteroids the dr swore up and down I wouldn't gain weight. I did. I got off of it and quit gaining. Maybe we are those percents of a percent they talk about.
