i have strep throat and i took cephalexin will that work?
Cephalexin is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are susceptible to the effects of cephalexin. Common infections that are treated with cephalexin include infections of the middle ear, tonsils, throat, larynx laryngitis, bronchi bronchitis and pneumonia. It also is used for treating urinary tract, skin, and bone infections.

Antibiotics for dental infections are usually as an emergency measure only. The fact that you didn't finish the course of antibiotics is probably inconsequential.
However, you must follow thru with treatment to eliminate the CAUSE of the infection, be it an abscessed tooth or wisdom tooth gum infection (pericoronitis).
Sure, take the remaining 11, but go and seek definitive treatment for the cause of the infection ASAP. Repeated courses of antibiotics for tooth infections without addressing the cause will eventually lead to resistance and more serious infections, sometimes requiring hospitalisation.
I saw a fellow once with a tooth infection who'd been going to his medical GP for daily injections of antibiotics. By the time he thought he'd better see a dentist, the infection had spread down his neck and into his upper chest. I sent him straight to hospital and they put him on top of the surgery list. He was lucky he didn't die.

cephalexin?
Is taking Cephalexin a prescription that can fight gout of the foot?

Cephalexin is an antibiotic, not gout treatment. Maybe your doctor suspects an infection rather than gout.

If I got an allergic reaction from Cephalexin, does that mean I am also allergic to Penicillin?
I was taking Cephalexin for an infection I had. After a few days I developed a bad all over body itchiness. They said it was an allergic reaction. I know if you are allergic to certain antibiotic, you are also allergic to others. Because I am allergic to Cephalexin, does that mean I'm allergic to any other ones, like Penicillin?

I often run into patients with a penicillin allergy. There's about a 10% chance of him/her reacting to a drug of the cephalexin class. I've never really thought about it the other way around.

Since you had what sounds like a classic allergic reaction to cephalexin, I'd avoid penicillin if possible just to be safe.

How long does Cephalexin stay in your system?
I was put on Cephalexin for an ear infection (500 mg dose.) Twice a day for a week, and spring break is next week, and I started the medication on monday, march 6th, do you think I will be able to drink alcohol by next week?

Cephalics is an anti-bacterial agent that helps in the cure of infections in our body. This type of agent is also known as good bacteria & it will continue to stay in our system to fight bad bacteria. Taking it for one (1) week 2x a day will help get rid of your ear infection. It would be better if you can abstain alcohol for another week to allow the anti-bacteria ls clear your system of other infections.

Does cephalexin have any interference with anesteshia from wisdom teeth removal?
I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow and I recently started taking cephalexin for my acne. I was wondering if there's any danger of drug interference.

Can I use Cephalexin for a big red bump i have on the tip of my nose?

Is that bump just a pimple or big zit? You don't need an antibiotic like cephalexin for something like that. Go get some clearasil cream (dunno if i spelled that right) or get some rubbing alcohol and rub it on the bump with a cotton ball or tissue. Cephalexin won't help from what I'm assuming, trust me, I'm a pharmacist.

Also if you have problems with pimples, you can always try panoxyl bar, which is benzyl peroxide soap unless you have sensitive skin.

Does anyone know how many days it takes Cephalexin to releive symptoms of a UTI?
My 4yr. old was taking Bactrim Pediatric for six days to cure a UTI. I found out it was not working, so they gave her Cephalexin for ten days. She has only been on it for one day. So, does anyone know how long it will take to releive her symptoms?

I was prescribed naproxen and cephalexin for swollen arm is this safe?
I was prescribed naproxen and cephalexin for my tricep (above my elbow) being swollen and the doctor didnt know the cause of it. So I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or knows anything about these 2 prescriptions? Thanks.
Also, Im worried about taking it because the doctor wasn't sure if it was an infection under the skin or a blood clot or something else and im 19.

naproxen I believe is a pain killer, cephalexin is an antibiotic. If you are concerned about a medication, call your pharmacist and ask.

antibiotics in general are not effective for treating abscesses, that's because the drug won't reach the abscess by blood as the abscess is walled off from surrounding tissues, best treatment for an abscess is drainage, either through soft tissue (the gum) or by a root canal depending on the cause of the abscess, go to your dentist he/she will know what to do.
taking antibiotics without prescription is irresponsible & ineffective.
cephalexin is a cephalosporin antibiotic, & it's ineffective against anaerobic bacteria which causes the abscess.

How long do Keflex cephalexin , Ibuprofen, and Vicodin stay in your system?
I had my wisdom teeth taken out a week ago and was prescribed to take Keflex cephalexin (200mg) and Ibuprofen (400mg)every 6 hours for 5 days. I also took one Vicodin in place of Ibuprofen the first night. I have to take a drug test (urine) for employment reasons, and am wondering if I've been off of the medications long enough for them not to show up? (Will have been off Vicodin 10 days and other 2 5 days at time of test). I know if it does come up I can explain it, but I'd prefer for it to just come up clean. So how long does it take? Thank you.

Toxicology screens (drug testing) done on blood and urine specimens can reveal the presence of many chemicals and drugs in the body. The sensitivity depends upon the sensitivity of the test, the substance itself, when the substance was taken, and the testing laboratory. Blood tests are more likely to detect the presence of an abused substance than urine tests, however, urine drug screens are more frequently done. Opiates and narcotics are usually present in the urine 12 to 36 hours after the last use, depending on the amount used and the frequency. Central Nervous System stimulants such as cocaine can be detected in urine anywhere between 1 to 12 days, again depending in frequency of use. Central Nervous System depressants such as Valium and Xanax are detected up to 7 days after the last day of use, mostly depending on the substance used and how quickly it is eliminated by the body (half-life). Most hallucinogens are also detectable in the urine up to 7 days after the last use. However, cannabis can be detected up to 28 days in regular users. This is only a really rough guide and each person eliminates (gets rid of a substance) at different rates and many factors can influence a test result including how regularly the drug was used. It is impossible to predict whether or not a drug may be present in your bodily fluid or whether the test used will be sensitive enough to detect it.

what does amoxycillin and cephalexin resistant indicate in urine culture report ?
My 9 month old son's urine culture report came like this :amoxycillin resistant, ciprofloxacin sensitive, cephalexin resistant, nalidixic acid sensitive, nitrofurantoin sensitive, norfloxacin sensitive and cephotaxime sensitive.{Report : citrobacter species isolated } . what does it mean ? what may be the best medicine(if needed).

Urine cultures "grow" the bacteria that is present in the urine. The bacteria are put into a growing medium such as agar. The growing bacteria are then subjected to additional testing called "sensitivity" testing.

This sensitivity testing will tell the physician what antibiotics the bacteria in your son's urine is sensitive or resistant to.

Citrobacter is simply the type of bacteria that was found in your son's urine. This citrobacter cannot be treated with amoxicillin (pencillin) or cephalexin (Keflex) but can be treated with all the other antibiotics that are listed as "sensitive".

Citrobacter are very common. Your physician will prescribe an antibiotic for your son and he should be fine!

Do I have a staph infection?
I had ACL surgery 3 weeks ago. Things were going great with recovery. Then, 5 days ago my calf swelled up pretty bad and got very warm. Two days later it was still swollen and I had a fever and chills.

The next day I went to the hospital. They ruled out any blood clots and gave me Ancef via IV. They also gave me a prescription for cephalexin, suggesting I had cellulitis in my leg.

I started taking the cephalexin yesterday and about the same time I started I noticed these little red pimples all over my neck, face, and body. They itch and some of them have a red dot in the center. I don't have a fever anymore but I still get chills sometimes. The calf is still swollen but not as bad.
My doctors think it is an allergy to the medicine. But couldn't this also be a staff infection that got into my blood stream???

If you are really concerned that it is staph go get tested for it, for your own peace of mind if nothing else. As for the pimples and itchiness it could be a reaction or side effect of your medicine.

It is more than likely an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. Staph can and does get into the blood stream. BUT these people are extremely sick. Temperature over 102, elevated heart rate, low blood pressure. These people are very ill, and are usually in intensive care. They are not walking around on their own.

If you have an abscess, an antibiotic is the way to go... if you have these meds in your house, that means you never took the prescribed dosage... so you don't have enough to take care of the problem.

Get a dental appointment and have an xray taken... then you'll get a prescription for fresh meds and take them until they're gone... like you're supposed to.
