Marijuana is completely fine to use with ANY medication. The reason alcohol is prohibited when on medication is because it's very harmful to your body (specifically your liver) and taking it with medication can be very damaging and sometimes deadly.

Mistakenly took cefuroxime axetil too much!! Worry!!?
Hi all,

I had a bad cough and the doctor prescribed Cefuroxime Axetil tablets 500mg (one pill), twice a day for a total of 1g a day.

I read the instruction wrong, so I was taking two pills (1g), twice a day for a total of 2g a day. I did this for almost three days before I discovered my mistake.

I haven't seen any bad effect except my skin has develop itches that move around and I hope the itch will goes away soon. Are there any other bad effects I should be careful about? I have finished all my medicine and my cough has gotten better.

Thanks a lot!

500mg twiced dailly is the maximum dosage stated for cefuroxime so you were certainly taking a high dose.

Serious overdose would have manifested as seizures. If you haven't experienced this then you are probably okay.

However I would suggest you see your doctor and explain the situation as skin rash is an adverse effect of cefuroxime. Also if you experience other symptoms such as nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; anorexia; abdominal pain or cramps; flatulence; colitis; serum sickness–like reactions (eg, polyarthritis, arthralgia, fever); phlebitis or thrombophlebitis, see your doctor immediately.

What is Cefuroxime Axetil 250 mg.?
What is this medicine used to treat?

Cefuroxime axetil is the oral form while the active metabolite cefuroxime is utilized intravenously. Cefuroxime axetil is a cephalosporin. Cephalosporins are derivatives of penicillin. Cephalosporins offer greater efficacy than penicillins and amino-penicillins (such as amoxicillin). Cefuroxime axetil was initially sold under the drug name Ceftin. Initially it was outrageously expensive and even as a generic drug it is not inexpensive. The dose of 250 mg twice daily would be correct for someone 60 pounds or so while above 120 pounds the dose would be 500 mg twice daily. Since this is a relatively potent and expensive antibiotic it is typically reserved for more severe infections. Traditionally this has meant otitis media (ear infections) failed on other antibiotics, sinus infections, bronchitis (not truly and infection), and pneumonia (cefuroxime axetil is not at this time a first or second line antibiotic for pneumonia). In the last few years however it has been questioned whether antibiotics actually influence the outcome of otitis media and sinusitis. There is certainly a strong current in the medical literature against the routine use of antibiotics due to lack of evidence of benefit and a dramatic increase in resistance to antibiotics not to mention serious antibiotic related side effects. This does not mean that antibiotics should never be used but it makes a dramatic case that antibiotic usage in the US is excessive and needs to be curtailed.

Has anyone used cefuroxime axetil for strep throat?
Tonya C
03/26/08
Reply
Usually something in the penicillin family is prescribed, but cefuroxime is a good choice as well to treat strep throat. It might be given in the case that a patient has a penicillin allergy.
Cefuroxime is a second generation cephalosporin. Cephalosporins will always kill Group A strep (the organism that causes "strep throat").

I'm not a doctor but maybe I can help explain your reports.
What you have is a staph infection in your throat. They generally grow cultures for 48 hours to see what type of bacteria grows out in the culture. They get this culture when they swab your throat.
When it says 'resistant to' that means those antibiotics will not work on this particular staph infection.
Your infection will not respond to Ampicillin or Penicillin.
Kelbsiella pneumoniae is another type of infection that is generally found in the lungs but can also be in the throat especially if you've been coughing. The report says you had 'moderate' growth so your infections are not rampant or serious.
The best thing you can do is to take any medications exactly as the doctor prescribed. If you smoke, stop. Also drink plenty of fluids, no alcohol, and get plenty of rest. I hope this helps you some.

Are 1,250 mg of Ammonium Chloride and 570 mg of Sodium Citrate dangerous?
I usually robotrip using a certain product (whose only active ingredient is DXM) that ran out at the local store. Instead I bought another cough syrup that in each 5 mg has:
diphenydramine HCL (12.5 mg)
DXM HBR (15 mg)
pseudoephedrine hcl (30 mg)
ammonium chloride (125 mg)
sodium citrate (57 mg)
menthol (1 mg)

I'd usually take it so I'd get about 150 mg of DXM, but that means I'd get 1,250 mg of sodium citrate and 570 mg of sodium citrate, which I've never dealt with before. Would those 2 get me really sick.. and not be worth taking?

Ammonium Chloride is used as an expectorant, and the LD50 (lethal dose for 50% of the population) is 1650mg/kg. So unless you weigh under 1.5 pounds, you should be OK with 1250 mg.

There are three "sodium citrates," but trisodium citrate is the one usually meant when using the term.
Taken orally, it's used as an antacid. It is also used as tart-tasting food additive, including in some Ocean Spray juices.
It's generally considered harmless, unless you do something like eat a brick of it.

which is better vitamin c, sodium ascorbate or calcium ascorbate?
i went to healthy options store, looking for sodium ascorbate, however the sales assistant replied that they dont carry sodium ascorbate only calcium ascorbate, and besides according to the sales staff, its bad for the heart for those with with cardio vascular problems, due to its sodium (salt) content? it is true?

All that excess sodium does is to put up the BP a bit. Actual vitamin C is Ascorbic acid. However it is the ascorbate ion which is the active principle. Sodium ascorbate ionizes immediately. Calcium is slower.

Therapeutically all three are the same.

Will Eating Sodium Nitrite Harm The Human Body?
Just curious will eating grams of sodium nitrite (the chemicals used for perservatives for foods) lethal to human beings? No confusion to sodium chloride (table salt) but what will happen if a human being ingests sodium nitrite beyond the set 2gram lethal dose limit ?
mee
02/22/11
Reply
The amount of sodium nitrite preservative in food is very small so it would be very unlikely that you would ever reach the 2 gm lethal dosage.

To reach that lethal level you would probably have to eat a few buckets of sodium nitrite preservative containing foods and you would probably die from over eating.

How can I stop spitting after using sodium fluoride mouthwash?
After using bubble gum flavored sodium fluoride mouth wash, i constantly salivate, and makes me want to spit, so I drink water, which I'm not supposed to...
What can i do to ease up on the saliva and spitting?

The sodium flouride is bought at a store. But my dentist told me to buy it.

Is this floride given to you by a dentist? If it is it may be due to the acidity of the floride which causes a sour taste. You can ask your dentist to see if they have a floride that is PH neutral. Or if they have floride varnish which they can use.

Toothpaste question: Crest versus Tom's of Maine?
I have both Crest and Tom's of Maine toothpastes:

Crest
0.243% Sodium flouride (0.16% w/v fluoride ion).

Tom's of Maine - Cinnamon-Clove flavor
Sodium monofluorophosphate, 0.13 w/v fluoride ion.

Tom's of Maine - Orange-Mango flavor
Sodium fluoride - 0.243%

Which is better? Does the % of Sodium fluoride matter when choosing which one to use?

is the salt in baking soda harmful for low sodium diets?
ok, so i'm purposely leaving out the salt required in baking recipes because i'm trying to follow a low salt diet - only to now find out (thank you sincerely - yahoo answers!!!) baking soda has tons of salt. I'm wondering if the sodium carbonate used in baking soda is as detrimental as regular sodium. If i'm using 1 teaspoon of baking soda - is that the exact same thing as 1 teaspoon of sodium - in regards to dietary considerations? if so ...sh*t sh*t sh*t :-( - but heck, at least now i know.

Reply
Yes it will affect your diet!
1 teaspoon baking soda = approx. 1000 mg sodium.
1 teaspoon salt = approx. 2,300 mg sodium
But it's not the end of the "baking" world. Remember you need to divide the number of servings in your recipe by the amount of teaspoons of baking powder. So unless you eat whatever you baked in one day you wouldn't get the whole 1000mg (if you used 1tsp). But if you're using yeast you're going to need salt for the chemistry. Anyway hope this helped. And check this store out. It has sodium free baking powder which helped me keep baking -- Livinglowsodium.com

Good luck!

Is corn syrup bad??????
Not High Fructose Corn Syrup.. Just corn syrup.
I just found out that my lunch-meat turkey contains corn syrup
along with, WATER, MODIFIED CORN STARCH, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF: DEXTROSE, SALT, SODIUM LACTATE, CARRAGEENAN, NATURAL FLAVORS, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, SODIUM DIACETATE, SODIUM NITRITE.

Yuck. I don't know if I wanna eat this anymore. but I don't want to bother my mom with finding new turkey lunch meat to buy, she says other kinds are too expensive

Is sodium phosphate an unhealthy additive?

Sodium Phosphates is a food additive. It is used to increase the shelf life and add a texture to the food and add a ‘look’ that is pleasing and appealing to the consumer, and which will entice them to purchase and eat the product.
It can be found in all varieties off foods including (but not exclusive too) soups, readymade food, cheeses, CHICKENS, cakes....
A small number of people can develop a intolerance to Sodium Phosphate. They may experience a stiff neck, foot cramps and dizziness... perhaps a little like a hangover. Seek medical attention in such an event.

It is an abrasive so you don´t want that in your mouth directly, you can use a variety of toothpastes which includes sodium bicarbonate in the formula, otherwise you are tearing down your teeth enamel.
Over the counter whitening products aren´t safe either, my boyfriend used one of this products and his tooth get stained because the product wore down the tooth enamel.
Your sure bet is go to the dentist and have your tooth whitening professionally, remember you first need to remove all the plaque.
A good smile goes a long way, so don´t risk your natural assets with non liable products or procedures.
Good luck.

It contains chlorine dioxide, which is made from the oxidation of Sodium Chlorite. Chlorine dioxide is used primarily for bleaching of wood pulp, but is also used for the bleaching of flour and for the disinfection of municipal drinking water. Chlorine dioxide has never been studied for ANY medical condition including high blood pressure. There is absolutely NO evidence it improves blood pressure. There have been short term studies of Chlorine dioxide for water disinfection. The studies were only for weeks to months. No significant adverse effects were noted, but the long term effects are unknown. The use of chlorine dioxide as a supplement has never been studied and its safety at the doses used are unknown. The developer of MMS has absolutely no training in medicine. I would suggest your dad stop this and get evaluated by a doctor ASAP for his blood pressure and dizziness.
