Can sulfur in paper bring about allergies for people allergic to sulfur?
I have a co-worker who claims that she cannot file papers because she is allergic to sulfur. She is well known to pull this kind of thing when trying to get out of doing something, so my question is, can contact with the little amount of sulfur in paper really have such an adverse affect on people with those allergies? I havn't been able to find anything on this, any help would be much appreciated!!

I can only tell you about my experience. I am allergic to sulfur and I can touch all the paper that I want. The doctors never told me to avoid anything like that either…but that is just my experience.

Is sulfur the main ingredient in sulfa medications?
I had an allergic reaction to Sulfa meds when i was 4 and have recently had adverse reactions to a chem lab that used sulfur, I am wondering if they are the same. Also is there sulfur in sulfates?

These are all in the same family (the ones you listed) and all you need to do is tell people you are allergic to Sulfa and avoiding contact with these products.

I have not been able to find any site that helps with restaurant menus. The food lists at this link might be of some help to you.

Medicinal Allergies?
I was told at about 10 I could possibly have an allergy to sulfur drugs when I got a rash after taking a sulfur antibiotic, I was never tested the doc wasnt sure but said better safe than sorry assume you have an allergy to sulfur drugs. At the time they didnt know I had eczema so that could have been the cause of the rash as you tend to break out when sick.

My question is should I refrain from taking prenatal vitamins containing zinc sulfate, cupric sulfate or magnesium sulfate or is that a different make up than the sulfur in antibiotics? The only reaction I had the the antibiotic was a rash, which they arent even positive if it was the cause.

I am allergic to sulfa also, same thing,rash's.... But take your prenatal vitamins, those are very important and it's not the same thing....Per chance if ever you get a reaction to vitamins, just look at them and start eliminating what you possibly think it could be, but vitamins are very important as your diet is through your pregnancy...

How do you get rid of the sulfur smell after using a sulfur soap?
I have Keratosis Pilaris. I bought a soap that contains sulfur because its supposed to help. After using the soap, I smell like a bit a sulfur and the smell does not disappear.
How do I get rid of the smell so that I don't smell bad?

Well, I watched Meryl Streep talking about her new movie, 'Julie and Julia'. She learned during filming that to get rid of garlic and onion smells off your fingertips to rub and wash with plain salt!

Try rubbing salt in with your hands dry, then rubbing them again with salt with wet fingertips. See if either works.

Is septra suspension the same as sulfur?
I am allergenic to septra suspension. I breakout really badly and I think this is why. I have tried almost all the skin medicines but still breakout, it seems like it is worse. Most of these contain sulfur.
Is that the same as sulfur?
Does soap with sulfate cause people with septra suspension reactions to breakout?
Are there soaps without sulfate in them?

There is a lot of confusion about SulfA drugs versus sulfur, the element. Septra contains a sulfonamide antibiotic. Sulfonamides are a class of drugs that a lot of people abbreviate with the term 'Sulfa'.

There should be no cross reaction between a sulfonamide allergy and topical Sulfur.

What is a good sulfur based soap for acne?
Is there a bar of soap that is sulfur based that you'd recommend? I have tried almost everything and my acne never goes away, however I have never tried a sulfur based soap.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know of any sulfur soaps (and I imagine they'd smell TERRIBLE) but I use Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque, which contains sulfur and has been a godsend to me. It's a dirt-cheap clay masque especially for acne-prone skin, smells minty-fresh and you'll find it at almost any American drugstore.

Soaps are useless anyway. In order for something to penetrate your skin and have any effect, you'd have to keep it on your face for five minutes or longer. The "benefits" of any soap get washed down the drain as soon as you rinse. The best soap you can use for acne-prone skin is an extremely gentle, non-drying liquid cleanser with no unnecessary chemicals, such as Cetaphil. Irritation and over-drying lead your skin to overproduce oil to compensate, which leads to clogged pores, which lead to acne. Also, irritation increases the redness, inflammation and severity of current pimples.

What happened to sulfur and cream of tartar tablets?
I live in the deep south and when I was a kid my dad used to give me sulfur and cream of tartar tablets\lozenges to repel ticks. They used to work so well, I started looking for them and they appear to have gone the way of the dodo. Does anyone know why? I appreciate it.

What recreational drug could be associated with the smell of sulfur?
I walked into the room of a friend of mine and the room smelled somewhat like sulfur to me. I think she had probably been using some sort of recreational drug shortly before I got there, but Im not sure what it could have been. Maybe LSD or meth?

How does the sulfur in some acne products actually help clear acne?
I have 2 acne treatments (Proactiv Refining Mask & another drying gel) that have sulfur as the main ingredient. They smell horrible, but they really work well! I was wondering what it actually does? Does it clear the pores or does it kill the acne bacteria? No big emergency, just wondering! Thanks!

Is sulfur that is contained in Latex body paint the same as sulfa?
I am planning on doing some paint art on my body with latex body paint and I realized it contained sulfur. I took these antibiotic pills for my skin called sulfa, and I was very allergic to it. Are they both the same thing? I need to know this before I start this process. Thank you.

Yes they are from the same family of sulfonamides though they are chemical compound is different and unrelated. internally may not mean you will be allergic to it on your skin. You could try a small test area several hours before you put it on the rest of your body. You can be allergic or become allergic to anything at any time.
Check this out on wikipeda.

how do i get rid of those little bumps on the back of my arms?
i've heard all the regular suggestions: lac-hydrin lotion, glycolic acid lotion, using a loofah, sulfur soap...none of them seem to work very well. help!

I had the same prob. I bought a buff-puff pad and used soap on it to scrub the back of my arms. I do that every day. Then when I get out of the shower, I pat the skin dry(not rub) and then put on lotion. It took a few weeks but it has made those bumps go away for good. It has been 10 years since I started doing this and they are still gone. But I do have to do that every day. It works!!!!!!

does factive 320 mg have sulfur in it?
My doctor thinks I had an allergic reaction to Factive and that is why I'm broken out in a severe rash. I need to know what ingredients are in it so that I will know what I'm allergic to.

Factive does not directly contain sulfur. It does however, have a sulfur derivative in it though. Factive is gemifloxacin, which is available as a mesylate salt. The mesylate salt is the part that contains the sulfur derivative. With that said, if you are allergic to sulfur, sulfa drugs, sulfonimides, or sulfates, there is the possibility that you may have a reaction just as severe as an allergic reaction to sulfur. However, Factive has a primary complaint of skin rashes. This may be either an adverse reaction or an allergic reaction (drug doesn't agree with your body versus something in the drug causes extreme histamine release in the body thereby creating an allergic reaction). In either case, the medication should be stopped and one should seek medical care promptly. This medication is a quinolone, to be exact, a fluoroquinolone antibacterial drug. If you are allergic to one drug in this category, you are at a higher risk of being allergic to the rest of the drugs in the same category. The rest of the ingredients in this drug are all inactive and do not play a role in the medication's reactions on the body. However, it is possible to be allergic to the inactive ingredients. I'm going to quote this from the actual manufacturer (LG Life Sciences/Oscient Pharmaceuticals) prescribing information packaging..."inactive ingredients are crospovidone, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, povidone, and titanium dioxide." I hope this information helps you out.
